How to remove pesticides from apples

Why apples are particularly exposed

Apples receive numerous pesticide treatments throughout their development. After harvest, they are coated with an artificial wax that improves their appearance and extends their shelf life — but which also traps pesticide residues beneath its surface. Running water does not dissolve this wax.

The most effective methods

Baking Soda (best home option)

1 tsp baking soda per 2 cups of water. Soak for 15 minutes. A 2017 study showed that baking soda eliminated over 96% of thiabendazole and phosmet after 15 minutes. Limitation: does not mitigate systemic pesticides inside the flesh.
